Design & Print Your Mailpiece

Follow direct mail design best practices to create effective EDDM advertising pieces. Sending actionable mail with a clear offer and call to action will help generate customer responses.

EDDM Retail Flats

Use the Mailpiece Size Checker, located at the top right of the EDDM Online Tool, to make sure your flyer or postcard meets the requirements for marketing mail.

Formatting Addresses & Postage

Mailpieces are simply addressed to "Postal Customer" and your mail will be delivered to every address on your selected routes.

Postage Indicia

Use the EDDM Retail Indicia, which is a postage payment mark that takes the place of a regular postage stamp or meter stamp.

  • Every EDDM mailpiece must include the EDDM Retail Indicia above and to the right of the address block.
  • The EDDM Retail Indicia does not have a specific size requirement but must be larger than 0.5" x 0.5".
  • The type font must be in all caps and at least a 4 point size.
  • It should fit in the area 1.625" from the right edge and 1.375" from top edge.
  • Leave 1/8" of space around the top and right edge.

Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) . . .

Every Door Direct Mail Retail lets you market your business to every address in the neighborhood without the need for addresses or names. You save the cost of purchasing a mailing list and you save the annual cost of a postage permit.

1) No Permit Needed for EDDM.
Traditional direct mailing requires purchasing a permit which cost hundreds of dollars every year. With retail EDDM, this annual fee has been waived.
 
2) No Mailing List required for EDDM
By using the post office simplified address promotion, you would not need to have a mailing list. The post office will deliver your piece to the mailing routes that you requested by adding the word "Postal Customer" to your mail piece.
 
3) Larger size postcards, better response
A mailing flat is at least 6.25″ x 9″ or larger size which means you have plenty of room to get your message to your customer. This is over 3 times the size of a 4″ x 6″ postcard and costs 9 cents less!
 
4) As close as your local post office
No need to go through the challenge of finding and understanding how to work with a business mail entry unit. EDDM Retail can be mailed from any post office and you can pay for postage with cash, check or debit card. You can have your printing already prepared and shipped to you and dropped off directly at the post office. This way, you get the lowest postage rate, and you know that your direct mail is being delivered quickly and efficiently.
